Isle of Skye is one of the most ruggedly beautiful places I’ve ever set eyes on. For those of you who have not heard of this little isle, it sits on the Northeast corner of Scotland just past the highlands.  My husband and I made the drive from Edinburgh in a rental car. I knew I had some pretty good photo ops in my future, but nothing could have prepared me for the magic that is Skye!

Get ready for horizon-to-horizon breathtaking views and sheep EVERYWHERE and I mean everywhere – only adding to the quaint idea that you’ve been time warped into a fairy tale. I’ve compiled of a short list of the must-see’s for your time in Skye. Happy viewing!

1. Quiraing – I’ll let the image do the talking here – just go. I don’t really know what to say other than I felt like this vista wasn’t even real. Like if I died in car accident today, that is what heaven would look like.

2. Old Man of Storr – THEY tell you that this is an easy, 700 foot elevation hike. Let ME tell you, they are LYING. I had a pretty gnarly cough when we did this hike, so what took us 4 hours would probably only take a healthy person around 2 hours, but it is definitely not easy. The views at the top however, 100% worth it.

3. Fairy Pools – Drive south through Portree and then west to get to the other side of the island. This is a series of pools and waterfalls in front of a dramatic little group of mountains. If it’s warm enough, you could even go for a dip, however it was only 50 degrees in May, so we did not pack our swimmies.

4. Neist Point Lighthouse – On the western side of the island along with the Fairy Pools, this jagged peninsula adorned with a rather plane white lighthouse is a complete stunner at sunset.

Travel Pro Tip: My husband and I made the drive from Edinburgh in a rental car – this is not for everyone. Driving on the wrong side of the road can be pretty unnerving, so make sure you’re prepared to be stressed. Secondly, one person HAS to be the navigator. There were several times when my husband was driving that I had to yell “LEFT!” to make sure he got back into the correct lane after a right turn. Don’t fret though, the stress was all worth it when we made it to our final destination.
